About this Facility

The Light House Recovery Home is a transitional sober living facility in Lafayette, Indiana. They provide adults with a safe space to live as they build a foundation for sobriety and whole person healing. They are a residential drug rehab facility with home like amenities. The Light House Recovery Home operates a series of sober living facilities throughout Indiana. Each home is gender specific.

Sober living homes give clients additional support as they transition from a treatment program and return to their communities. Residents commit to living sober lives and must abide by community rules established by staff. This can include limited phone and car use and limited visitors for the first 30 days of their stay.

The group home gives clients ample opportunity to practice their life and coping skills. Community living allows them to forge supporting relationships and practice healthy communication. Clients also engage in support and educational groups with their fellow residents.

Lighthouse Sober Living utilizes Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT) to help clients explore the circumstances that brought them to addiction and how to change the behaviors that keep them there. It strengthens moral reasoning and is applied to various dangerous behaviors, not just addiction. MRT includes individual and group therapy and coursework in a structured environment.

Clients are also paired with a staff approved sobriety mentor for hands on, individual education and guidance. The care team can also connect clients with additional community resources as well.

Another specialty of Lighthouse’s approach is the 12 step program. Clients can participate in meetings on site or elsewhere in the community. The 12 steps program requires clients to admit that they are powerless over their addictions, put their faith in a self designated higher power, make amends with those hurt by their addictions, and dedicate themselves to assisting others in recovery.

Lighthouse homes are not clinical or medical facilities. They do not distribute or prescribe medication. However, clients are allowed to bring previously prescribed medications to the facility.

Treatment

Alcoholism

If a person has alcohol use disorder (AUD), also referred to as alcoholism, they experience a desire or physical need to consume alcohol. A person with AUD may try to stop drinking but they are unsuccessful without professional help. Alcohol rehab in Indiana can provide the resources necessary to achieve and maintain recovery. Rehab programs typically involve a combination of medical, behavioral, and social supports to overcome alcohol addiction.

Drug Addiction

For long-term recovery from drug addiction, drug rehab in Indiana is often key. This treatment gives individuals who are struggling with a substance use disorder the tools to manage their disorder and achieve long-term sobriety.

Opioid Addiction

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance Abuse

Indiana provides substance abuse treatment programs for individuals with substance use disorders. With a range of care levels, including outpatient, inpatient, and partial hospitalization programs, you’ll be able to find the right treatment for you. Programs usually include a substance abuse evaluation, evidence-based therapies such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and group therapy address substance abuse and enhance coping strategies. By offering personalized treatment plans and a supportive environment, these programs strengthen your ability to maintain your recovery.

Level of Care

Sober Living Homes

The main rule in a sober living home in Indiana is that residents cannot use or bring alcohol or drugs into the home. Breaking this rule typically results in eviction. In addition to this rule, men’s and women’s sober living homes have other standards that residents must meet. These usually include maintaining a job, helping with meal preparation and house cleaning, and attending 12-step meetings.

12-Step

12 step programs foster participants’ long-term sobriety through personal growth rooted in spiritual principles, though religious affiliation is not mandatory. Most 12 step meetings are non-denominational but are based on the belief in a higher power. Participants learn to understand and address the causes of their addiction, accept responsibility for their choices, and relinquish control for that which cannot be changed. Regular group meetings and mentoring by a self-selected sponsor are required.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT) is a modality based on strengthening moral reasoning, that can be used in substance abuse treatment. Originally created to help criminal offenders stop committing crimes, it is a structured approach that includes both group and individual counseling, as well as homework exercises. The MRT workbook is structured around 16 steps (units) focusing on 7 treatment issues, including building a healthy, positive identity; developing a higher frustration tolerance; and forming a strong moral belief structure. Participants meet 1-2 times weekly in groups, and can complete all steps of the MRT program in 3-6 months.

Recreational therapy (aka therapeutic recreation) uses creative and fun activities to help with addiction recovery. Recreational therapists lead patients in entertaining and engaging activities like sports or games; art (drawing, painting, sculpture); drama, music, and dance; and/or community outings (field trips) to improve patients' physical, social, and emotional well-being.
