About this Facility

Dr. Joseph Henry Tyler Behavioral Health Clinic (BHC) is a co-occurring mental health and substance use disorder treatment center in Lafayette, LA. The center aims to provide treatment services to men and women for various addictions including drugs, alcohol, and gambling.

Through various evidence based treatment services and levels of care, the facility provides the following:

Dr. Joseph Henry Tyler Jr. BHC provides two levels of care for withdrawal management. Medically monitored inpatient withdrawal management offers immediate, acute care for individuals at moderate to severe health risk due to co-occurring medical conditions or harsh conditions resulting from substance use. Clinically managed residential withdrawal management (social detox) offers care for clients who require immediate addiction treatment without urgent health problems.

Dr. Joseph Henry Tyler Jr. BHC offers outpatient services catering to different care levels. Non-intensive programs provide screening, assessment, diagnosis, treatment/counseling, supportive services, and aftercare or rehabilitation services. These services are provided in a community setting for less than nine hours per week.

Intensive outpatient programs involve three or more hours of treatment per day, three or more days per week, totaling a minimum of nine treatment hours per week. The intensity of services is based on the individual’s needs

Residential care provides 24/7 residential care for individuals with co-occurring psychiatric and substance use disorders. These services include assessments, diagnosis, treatment, habilitation, and rehabilitation. The residential level of care is suitable for individuals whose disorders require intensive support.

Dr. Joseph Henry Tyler Jr. BHC offers substance use disorder treatment services for eligible women in the Child Welfare (CW) and Economic Stability Self Sufficiency (ESSS) sections. Residential treatment services are provided to women and their dependent children up to age 12. These services encompass assessment, individual and group counseling, trauma informed care, drug education, relapse prevention, case coordination, and evidence based curriculum to support families in achieving optimal functioning.

Dr. Joseph Henry Tyler Jr. BHC supports the Oxford House program, a self run and self supported recovery house for individuals recovering from alcoholism and drug addiction. Oxford Houses provide an alcohol and drug free living environment. These democratically run homes accommodate six to eleven residents and are available for men, women, and women with children.

Treatment

Alcoholism

Alcoholism - also known as alcohol use disorder (AUD), alcohol dependence, and alcohol addiction - is a chronic condition that describes a form of problem drinking that causes harm to a person’s health and relationships. To treat AUD, alcohol rehab in Louisiana is usually necessary. This typically involves three phases: medical detox to safely withdraw from alcohol, rehabilitation through evidence-based therapies, and support for long-term recovery maintenance.

Drug Addiction

While each drug rehab in Louisiana offers unique elements, recovery support often follows a similar pattern. Detox is followed by inpatient and/or outpatient care, then aftercare support is provided once the participant completes the initial program.

Mental Health and Substance Abuse

Mental health and substance abuse treatment in Louisiana is usually provided in a specialist dual-diagnosis treatment center. These inpatient and outpatient programs can effectively address both mental health and substance abuse concerns simultaneously, through therapeutic interventions, like individual therapy, group counseling, psychoeducation, and specialized programs like equine-assisted therapy or adventure therapy. By combining evidence-based practices and integrated approaches, you’ll achieve recovery, and leave treatment equipped with the tools to sustain your sobriety.

Level of Care

Outpatient

Clients enrolled in outpatient rehab typically need less intensive supervision and support than those in inpatient care. Clients may continue to work and attend school while participating in addiction counseling and recovery education during the evening, night, or weekend. Clients also often enter intensive outpatient (IOP) treatment immediately upon exiting residential care, which provides them with high-level step-down support as they reintegrate into their homes and communities.

Intensive Outpatient

Clients engaged in an intensive outpatient program (IOP) participate in multiple treatment sessions weekly. Typical treatment modalities include individual, group, and family counseling, addiction and recovery education, medication assisted treatment (MAT), and evidence-based holistic therapies. Most intensive outpatient rehabs require clients to engage in a minimum of nine and a maximum of 20 treatment hours per week. Many clients enter IOP after stepping down from intensive inpatient care, but some may enroll immediately after completing detox.

Aftercare Support

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.
