About this Facility

Woodlake is a modern drug and alcohol recovery center in Abbeville, Louisiana. They provide several levels of care rooted in the 12 step model for men and women at various stages of addiction. This is a residential setting with home like amenities and a relaxed atmosphere. Their program structure follows four phases that clients progress through as they complete the program. Woodlake provides a full continuum of care and treatment services during this program.

Clients with severe addiction symptoms may be required to enter detox before receiving treatment, but it may also be entered voluntarily. Clients in detox stay onsite and receive 24 hour care and observation from the medical staff to ensure they are safe and comfortable during what can prove to be a difficult and painful process. Clients may then transition from detox to another care program.

Inpatient care gives clients a safe and secure place to live on campus for the duration of their treatment. While under 24 hour monitoring from staff, a client’s needs are met so they can put their energy into their treatment program. Treatment revolves around individual and group therapy, 12 step programs, life skills training, and other educational opportunities.

The inpatient program includes specialized care for working professionals from high stress occupations. This group meets once a week.

PHP is a form of outpatient therapy where clients come to the facility on a regular schedule to receive highly structured care. Clients in this program continue to live at home but receive the same types of care they would in the inpatient program. PHP is sometimes used as a transitional step for those leaving inpatient care who are entering the intensive outpatient program (IOP) or returning to their daily lives.

IOP is designed for both people who are entering a recovery program for the first time, who have relapsed, or who have completed the inpatient program. Clients continue to live at home and live their everyday lives. Clients receive the same care as the inpatient program, emphasizing group therapy, education, and activities.

Treatment

Alcoholism

Alcoholism - also known as alcohol use disorder (AUD), alcohol dependence, and alcohol addiction - is a chronic condition that describes a form of problem drinking that causes harm to a person’s health and relationships. To treat AUD, alcohol rehab in Louisiana is usually necessary. This typically involves three phases: medical detox to safely withdraw from alcohol, rehabilitation through evidence-based therapies, and support for long-term recovery maintenance.

Drug Addiction

While each drug rehab in Louisiana offers unique elements, recovery support often follows a similar pattern. Detox is followed by inpatient and/or outpatient care, then aftercare support is provided once the participant completes the initial program.

Dual Diagnosis

Specialized dual-diagnosis addiction treatment in Louisiana offers integrated treatment for individuals with co-occurring substance use disorders and mental health conditions. Programs include detox, outpatient, inpatient, and partial hospitalization options. Therapies like cognitive behavioral therapy, or dialectical behavioral therapy, mindfulness, and group therapy address the underlying causes of addiction, enhance coping strategies, and promote mental health and well-being. The programs discharge planning and alumni program will help to support long-term recovery by preventing relapse and providing on-going support post-treatment.

Mental Health and Substance Abuse

Mental health and substance abuse treatment in Louisiana is usually provided in a specialist dual-diagnosis treatment center. These inpatient and outpatient programs can effectively address both mental health and substance abuse concerns simultaneously, through therapeutic interventions, like individual therapy, group counseling, psychoeducation, and specialized programs like equine-assisted therapy or adventure therapy. By combining evidence-based practices and integrated approaches, you’ll achieve recovery, and leave treatment equipped with the tools to sustain your sobriety.

Opioid Addiction

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Level of Care

Outpatient

Clients enrolled in outpatient rehab typically need less intensive supervision and support than those in inpatient care. Clients may continue to work and attend school while participating in addiction counseling and recovery education during the evening, night, or weekend. Clients also often enter intensive outpatient (IOP) treatment immediately upon exiting residential care, which provides them with high-level step-down support as they reintegrate into their homes and communities.

Medically Assisted Detox

In order to withdraw from certain substances and for patients that have been using an addictive substance for a longer period of time, it may be necessary for patients to undergo medically supervised detoxification. Woodlake will administer the appropriate medications to prevent severe withdrawal symptoms. At an appropriate time during the detoxification process Woodlake’s professional staff will conduct a comprehensive assessment and evaluation to determine the best level of treatment for the individual client. During this phase of treatment patient’s are introduced to educational information about the disease of addiction and 12-Step recovery.

Intensive Outpatient

Clients engaged in an intensive outpatient program (IOP) participate in multiple treatment sessions weekly. Typical treatment modalities include individual, group, and family counseling, addiction and recovery education, medication assisted treatment (MAT), and evidence-based holistic therapies. Most intensive outpatient rehabs require clients to engage in a minimum of nine and a maximum of 20 treatment hours per week. Many clients enter IOP after stepping down from intensive inpatient care, but some may enroll immediately after completing detox.

Inpatient

Knowing that socialization prior to treatment was limited to isolation or others that would not confront the addiction, daily communal living and sharing of responsibilities are emphasized in the person recapturing the common welfare of self in relationship to others. Woodlake’s holistic approach affords that process to begin starting from the initial evaluation, individualized treatment plan, specific tasks and assignments correlating all aspects of the personality, to a discharge plan incorporating those learned behaviors into a supportive recovery based environment.

Sober Living Homes

Sober living homes in Louisiana is a drug and alcohol-free environment where residents can maintain or establish their sobriety. Also called a halfway house, this setting offers peer empowerment, support, accountability, reinforcement of recovery principles, and individual responsibility. It is a safe place where residents can solidify their recovery skills and prepare to return home or establish a new independent life.

12-Step

12 step programs enable participants to focus on their long-term sobriety through rigorous peer support and ongoing personal growth. They engage in regular, peer-directed 12 step meetings and receive one-on-one mentoring by a self-selected sponsor. Meetings are free, anonymous, and available multiple times a day, 365 days per year in most communities. Though 12 steps of recovery are rooted in spiritual principles, religious affiliation isn’t mandatory. Specialized programs are widely available, including youth and family meetings.

Intervention Services

Intervention services helps family or friends of addicts stage an intervention, which is a meeting in which loved ones share their concerns and attempt to get an addict into treatment. Professional intervention specialists can help loved ones organize, gather, and communicate with an addict. They can guide intervention participants in describing the damage the addict's behavior is causing and that outside help is necessary to address the addiction. The ideal outcome of an intervention is for the addict to go to rehab and get the help they need.

Clinical Services

Eating Disorder Treatment

Eating disorders include anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, and dysfunctional eating patterns. Many psychologists and other mental health professionals consider eating disorders to be food addictions, meaning food is being used in an addictive way (similar to drug or alcohol addiction). Certain substance abuse treatment programs will have treatment for eating disorders as one of the services offered. An eating disorder may also present as a co-occuring disorder or dual diagnosis alongside drug and alcohol addiction.

Families are invited to attend a Family Weekend to receive education regarding the disease of addiction for family members and participation in family group sessions. Woodlake's Family Education model focuses on the disease concept, spirituality, the loss of personalities, defenses, neurological chemistry of addiction, the principles of the 12 step programs, and includes specific task to assist with redefining self and recovery. The Family Education group work is designed to allow the family members to explore their pain in the midst of the addiction, openly and honestly discuss resentments, determine proper amends and realistic expectations, and devise specific means to continue the recovery process while improving the relationship and enhanced communication.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.
