About this Facility

The Lifehouse is a nonprofit organization created to help men and women recover from alcoholism and substance use disorder located in Huntington, West Virginia. They are a long term, faith based recovery program that operates out of 13 residential properties and an apartment building.

The Lifehouse offers residential treatment for men and women at various intensity levels.

The Women’s Residential Program houses 30 women from treatment centers, detox, jail, courts, prison, and CPS for a minimum of an eight month stay. Participation in process groups, accountability groups, and 12 Step groups is required. This program supports women in getting a sponsor, getting to church, and securing a job. For the first 60 days, women are strictly monitored with minimal outside contact, no dating, limited outside meetings, and so forth.

The Men’s Residential Treatment Program is a two phase program. Phase one is a 60 day intensive initial phase of recovery with clinical treatment offered by local licensed behavioral health centers. Group sessions are twice a day, and 12 Step meetings are mandatory. Pastoral counseling is also offered 3 – 4 times per week to help connect spirituality to the recovery process. A master level therapist, case manager, and psychiatrist are available if needed. Phase two involves another eight months of treatment, where an additional 25 hours a week of work are required.

The 12 Step program is a common recovery model based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a plan for recovery based in a Higher Power. Middle steps include self-examination and making amends to those who’ve been hurt by the addiction. The later steps include continuing to take personal inventory while living a life of recovery and supporting others in doing the same. Additional 12 Step groups include Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) Gamblers Anonymous (GA), to name a few.

Treatment

Alcoholism

When a person struggles with alcoholism, they have become dependent on alcohol and require treatment to overcome the addiction. Alcohol rehab in West Virginia teaches you new coping skills and helps you process emotional issues related to drinking. Medications may also be provided to help control the alcohol addiction and maintain sobriety.

Drug Addiction

Drug addiction causes psychological and physical damage through repeated and uncontrollable use of substances. Drug rehab in West Virginia focuses on providing a full continuum of care, from detox to aftercare, and treatment can take place in outpatient or inpatient settings, based on your needs.

Opioid Addiction

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance Abuse

In West Virginia, individuals seeking substance abuse treatment can access comprehensive rehab programs. Through a combination of individualized treatment planning and evidence-based therapies such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), you’ll receive the treatment you need to overcome addiction and maintain your recovery. You can also expect individual and group therapy, skills training, and personalized care to give you all the support you need to maintain your recovery after treatment.

Level of Care

Inpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Sober Living Homes

The primary rule in a sober living home in West Virginia is that residents stay sober. In addition to this rule, residents are encouraged to find work or attend school and must contribute to household chores and abide by a curfew. These rules encourage responsible behavior and help residents maintain a structured, sober lifestyle. The halfway house setting helps people in recovery avoid isolation, practice responsibility, and develop supportive relationships.

12-Step

Participants in 12 step programs receive ongoing peer support while cultivating recovery-focused life skills. They engage in frequent, sometimes daily, 12 step meetings, which are anonymous, free, peer-led, and available day and night in most communities. Self-selected sponsors offer one-on-one mentoring throughout the recovery journey. This model invokes spiritual principles to encourage self-awareness, forgiveness, accountability, and acceptance in persons pursuing recovery. Specialized formatting is common, including programs for teens, seniors, and family members.

Clinical Services

Group Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.
