About this Facility

The Extension is an alcohol and substance use rehab center in Marietta, GA, for homeless men and women. The facility provides support to individuals experiencing homelessness who are over the age of 24.

With a maximum capacity of 57 beds on the men’s campus and 25 beds on the women’s campus, Extension offers inpatient residential as their primary level of care. The program duration is nine to twelve months and is divided into three phases.

Firmly rooted in the Matric Model, patients in phase I undergo assessment and learn about issues critical to addiction and relapse. They receive direction and support from a trained counselor and are monitored for drug use.

During their time in treatment, patients will attend counselor led 25-30 weeks of practical life skills. These skills can include education on toxic relationships, money management, effective communication, and more. Progress is measured by the administration of pre and post tests for each of the five core components of the curriculum.

Within the final stage, patients prepare for discharge through education that helps them integrate into daily living. Patients will develop a specific and realistic understanding of relapse warning signs, management is possible, and change is likely. Additionally, a comprehensive aftercare plan is provided.

Treatment

Alcoholism

Alcoholism is a pattern of alcohol use that involves continued drinking even when it causes problems. Alcoholism is also characterized by a physical dependence on alcohol, which causes the body to experience withdrawal symptoms when alcohol is not present. Due to this physical dependence, medically-supervised detox is often necessary to safely recover from alcoholism. Alcohol rehab in Georgia offers a three-step process of detox, rehab, and maintenance to help individuals recover from alcohol addiction.

Drug Addiction

A quality drug rehab in Georgia can help you overcome addiction. This environment is designed to help you address the complex issues contributing to drug dependence. The goal of treatment is to give you the tools you need to make a full recovery.

Substance Abuse

Addiction treatment programs in Georgia help individuals to address substance abuse problems. With various programs available, including outpatient, inpatient, and partial hospitalization programs, you can find the right level of care for your specific needs. You can generally expect drug and alcohol rehab to incorporate evidence-based therapies, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), skills training, recovery meetings, and mindfulness-based therapy. When combined, these interventions can successfully help you overcome addiction and continue to enjoy long-term mental health.

Level of Care

12-Step

Participants in 12 step recovery programs focus on personal growth to address the emotional and psychological factors contributing to their addiction. 12 step recovery is rooted in spiritual development, but religious affiliation isn’t required. Regular group meetings and individualized support with the help of self-selected sponsors promote participants’ sobriety as they work through the 12 steps, gaining insight into their addiction, taking responsibility for their life choices, and releasing control over that which is uncontrollable.

Aftercare Support

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Clinical Services

Family Therapy

They know the disease of addiction affects the entire family. If a recovering client returns to a dysfunctional family who has had no counseling, the chances of success are greatly diminished. Regular meetings with their Licensed Professional Counselor enables the family to work together to identify the challenges they are facing. They know that every situation is different; therefore they assist with different strategies that may help overcome such challenges.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life. Individual therapy is facilitated by a trained staff member and provides a safe, structured environment for emotional expression, exploration, resolve and healing.

All clients must complete the life skills course. This includes budgeting, savings, credit repair, toxic relationships, parenting and many other life problems. Homework consists of a plan for debt reduction, contacting creditors and the struggles of living responsibly. All components have a pre and post- test to evidence outcomes.
