The Anchorage is a men’s faith-based ministry and addiction treatment center located in Leesburg, Georgia. They believe the Word of Jesus Christ and the healing power available to those who deepen their relationship with Him as they choose a life of recovery.
The Anchorage provides residential treatment services to men.
The residential treatment program at The Anchorage is for those who need to be removed from their home environment in order to have the structure and accountability needed in order to live a substance free life. As a faith based ministry, this program focuses heavily on the teachings of Jesus Christ and the Bible. During their stay, men will participate in two phases of treatment. Phase one lasts for 120 days and begins with exploring personal issues and spiritual connections. Time will be spent reading and learning about the Bible. Counseling, 12 Step meetings, and daily assigned work tasks are required. Phase two consists of attending AA meetings three times a week, working the steps with a sponsor, attending church, and obtaining employment. Once employment is obtained, 25% of the wages earned are to be paid to The Anchorage to help the center continue to offer their services. The nominal fee paid upfront to participate in this program is slightly offset by ensuring a small amount of additional funds continue to support the mission.
Faith based treatment utilizes the spiritual beliefs and teachings of a particular faith to help individuals overcome addiction. Through a connection to their Higher Power, or the God of their religion, overcoming defeating behaviors is thought to become possible. This usually involves daily time spent in prayer, devotion, or reflection to create a deeper connection and the feeling of support through this connection.
The 12 Step program is a common recovery model based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a plan for recovery based in a Higher Power. Middle steps include self examination and making amends to those who’ve been hurt by the addiction. The later steps include continuing to take personal inventory while living a life of recovery and supporting others in doing the same. Additional 12 Step groups include Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) Gamblers Anonymous (GA), to name a few.
