About this Facility

Spectrum Health Systems- Charles J. Faris Recovery Center, located in Westborough, Massachusetts, offers three levels of inpatient care for substance use disorder. They specialize in medical stabilization and short term detoxification services.

Spectrum Health Systems- Charles J. Faris Recovery Center offers inpatient detoxification, clinical stabilization, and residential treatment.

The detoxification program at Charles J. Faris Recovery Center is a medically supervised detox overseen by a professional staff. They provide 24 hour supervision and compassionate nursing care to ensure safe withdrawal from alcohol, opioids, and other substances. Medications are used to suppress withdrawal symptoms and to provide as much comfort as possible. If permitted, time is spent planning the next stage of recovery, which may include inpatient or residential treatment.

Clinical stabilization at the Charles J. Faris Recovery Center is co-ed. This short term program helps bridge the gap between detoxification and the next phase of treatment. The stabilization process includes a comprehensive assessment, treatment planning, individual and group counseling, health education, and continuing care planning.

The residential program at Charles J. Faris Recovery Center is gender specific, allowing for men and women to participate without the distractions that can come from co-ed residential treatment. In each program, there is a high degree of structure and accountability to help create stability and routine. A weekly schedule of individual counseling, group counseling, relapse prevention training, and recreational activities are offered. The length of stay is dependent on the unique needs of each person.

Individual therapy creates the space to explore the psychological challenges associated with the addiction. With the help of a professional, individuals are given the space and direction to talk about and process their emotions. Often this includes unresolved trauma, anger, depression, anxiety, and the need for more control or autonomy in life.

Group therapy involves treatment through the process of connecting in a group setting to discuss and work through mental, emotional, and physical issues. There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psychoeducation, and more.

Treatment

Alcoholism

A person who has alcohol use disorder (alcoholism) builds up a physical tolerance to alcohol. If they try to stop drinking, they experience withdrawal symptoms. Treatment is available for this condition, through alcohol rehab in Massachusetts. Treatment options include AA, detox, counseling, medication, residential programs, and outpatient treatment. Social and family support systems are crucial during and after treatment of any kind.

Drug Addiction

Addiction is a highly complex problem, and drug rehab in Massachusetts is often necessary to address it. These programs treat physical, mental, and relational issues that are involved. Treatment empowers individuals to manage these issues without the use of drugs.

Opioid Addiction

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance Abuse

In Massachusetts, substance abuse treatment programs can help to address addiction and, if relevant, any co-occurring mental health conditions. Programs include outpatient, inpatient, dual-diagnosis, and partial hospitalization. You’ll receive therapies like cognitive behavioral therapy, or dialectical behavioral therapy, and sometimes complementary therapies like acupuncture and mindfulness-based therapy. By attending skills training and recovery groups you’ll build a strong foundation for your recovery and strengthen your support network, increasing your chances of long-term recovery success.

Level of Care

Medically Assisted Detox

Spectrum’s detoxification programs provide 24-hour medical supervision and compassionate nursing care to ensure safe withdrawal from alcohol, opioids and other substances. Medications are used to suppress withdrawal symptoms and make clients as comfortable as possible during detoxification. During this time, they work with each client to prepare them for the next step in the recovery process. Because addiction is a chronic disease, most individuals benefit from continued treatment to learn how to live drug-free and sustain their recovery over time.

Inpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

24-Hour Clinical Care

At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.

Aftercare Support

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Clinical Services

Experiential Therapy

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.
