About this Facility

South Shores Recovery is a dual-diagnosis drug rehab and substance use treatment facility in Dana Point, California, that serves adult men and women. The treatment center creates a trauma-informed individualized curriculum for every client, comprising conventional, evidence-based treatments like cognitive behavioral therapy as well as holistic therapies like harp therapy, art therapy, yoga, and surf therapy.

For clients in early stages of recovery, South Shores Recovery offers medically assisted detox to ease withdrawal symptoms and prepare clients for treatment.

Clients needing a thorough, immersive addiction treatment plan can take advantage of the residential services at South Shores Recovery. The gender-specific care can last up to three months, with a personalized treatment plan for every client consisting of psychotherapy and holistic healing activities.

The intensive outpatient program or IOP at South Shores Recovery utilizes treatments and services such as individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy, medication management, relapse prevention planning, and occupational support. This program serves clients in recovery while they live off-site.

The partial hospitalization program (PHP) at South Shores Recovery is a non-residential program that involves more treatment time than the IOP. This program offers medically supervised care with one-on-one therapy, group therapy, and life skills training for relapse prevention.

South Shores Recovery accepts plans from such insurance providers as Aetna, Health Net, Cigna, BlueCross/BlueShield, and TRICARE. Because insurance plans vary, be sure to verify coverage information and out of network details with the insurer.

Treatment

Substance Abuse

In California, substance abuse treatment programs can help individuals with any type of substance use disorders and co-occurring conditions. These rehab programs typically encompass various levels of care, including medically assisted detox, intensive outpatient, outpatient, residential rehab, and partial hospitalization. You can expect clinicians to utilize evidence-based therapies like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and mindfulness to help you achieve and sustain your recovery. The rehab’s clinical team can provide a comprehensive assessment to determine the appropriate level of care and medical support you may need.

Level of Care

12-Step

Participants engaged in 12 step programs receive intensive peer coaching (sponsorship) and community support. Spiritual development as a means of achieving psychological and emotional healing and growth is the cornerstone of 12 step recovery, but religious affiliations are not required. Meetings are free, anonymous, and open to the public, though specialized formats are available, including groups for seniors, teens, and family members. Evening, night, and day meetings are conducted year-round in most communities.

Inpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Medically Assisted Detox

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal. The length of stay at the detoxification program is determined according to the specific needs of the patient.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

Recreational therapy (aka therapeutic recreation) uses creative and fun activities to help with addiction recovery. Recreational therapists lead patients in entertaining and engaging activities like sports or games; art (drawing, painting, sculpture); drama, music, and dance; and/or community outings (field trips) to improve patients' physical, social, and emotional well-being.
