Shields for Families - Genesis Family Day Treatment Program, located in Los Angeles, California, offers intensive outpatient programs (IOPs) and general outpatient alcohol and drug rehab services for mothers with children ages 0-18. Services are available in Spanish and English, and they offer prevention and mental health services for children whose mothers are in the Genesis program.
The IOP meets several hours per session, several days per week. Services include individual, group, and family counseling; addiction education; life-skills training; parenting classes; case management; and relapse-prevention planning. Approaches may include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing (MI), and other evidence-based strategies.
General outpatient treatment meets a few times per week and includes the same services as the IOP. When treatment ends, Shields for Families offers aftercare support such as connections to 12-Step and other recovery programs. Staff may also make referrals to family support programs, social services, and community resources such as employment and housing services and food and clothing services.
Shields for Families – Genesis Family Day Treatment Program may accept Medi-Cal and other insurance plans such as Humana, Cigna, United Healthcare, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Magellan Health, and Kaiser Permanente. Every insurance plan is different, so be sure to verify coverage and out-of-network benefits with your insurance company.

Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.
Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.
Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.
