Prototypes was founded in 1986 by Vivian Brown and Maryann Fraser, who aimed to create a rehab that could treat women and their children who had substance abuse problems in their lives. The first residential facility began serving clients in 1988, and ever since, it has been a beacon of hope for mothers and children experiencing addiction and its repercussions. Prototypes in California have all the modern addiction treatment necessities for individuals seeking help.
Prototypes offer a few substance abuse, domestic violence, and mental illness programs to rebuild the lives of women, children, and communities. Some of the programs those with drug and alcohol dependency can enroll in include the following:
The Prototype’s residential substance use disorder treatment programs are created to help women remain successful in their recovery from drug or alcohol addiction and dual diagnosis mental health disorders. The residential program is for women and children and includes various services, including individual and group therapy alongside school support.
Men and women over 18 can enroll in the outpatient substance use disorder treatment program at the Prototypes rehab center. This program is offered at the outpatient and intensive outpatient level and at varying lengths to suit the needs of an individual. These programs are designed to help pregnant and parenting mothers, adults in the family or criminal court systems, and parents with an open case with child protective services.
Detoxification treatments are offered at the Prototypes addiction treatment center. Women can come to this rehab center in the earliest stage of recovery from drugs and alcohol. Prototypes have a residential detoxification treatment program that monitors, manages, and administers medications (MAT) alongside evaluating and re-evaluating an individual to adjust to current needs.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.
Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.
In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.
Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.
