Treatment

Alcoholism

Alcoholism is a syndrome of dependent alcohol use. Also called alcohol use disorder (AUD), the symptoms include craving alcohol, not being able to stop drinking, and feeling anxious or irritable when not drinking. For many people, alcohol rehab in Pennsylvania is a beneficial treatment. Programs offer many levels of care, including medical and behavioral therapies.

Drug Addiction

Drug rehab in Pennsylvania is devoted to the treatment of addiction. Levels of care, treatment methods, and settings differ, but the aim of each program is to end drug dependency and empower participants to achieve long-term recovery.

Dual Diagnosis

Pennsylvania's specialized dual-diagnosis addiction treatment programs prioritize comprehensive care for individuals with co-occurring substance use disorders and mental health conditions. Providing various levels of care, including outpatient, inpatient, and partial hospitalization, dual-diagnosis experts use evidence-based therapies, recovery support groups, and education to treat both disorders, promote mental health, and improve your quality of life.

Opioid Addiction

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance Abuse

In Pennsylvania, substance abuse treatment programs can help address addiction and any co-occurring mental health problems. These programs incorporate evidence-based therapies such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and psychoeducation to help you uncover the underlying causes for your substance use and develop new skills to help you manage stress and overcome future triggers which may challenge your sobriety.

Level of Care

Inpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. A “residential drug-free” (also referred to as inpatient non-hospital) treatment program that combines the evidence-based practices of Motivational Interviewing and the Transtheoretical Model of behavior change.

Aftercare Support

An aftercare plan or Single Plan is developed for every student within 30 days of admission, updated quarterly and finalized as discharge nears. Aftercare services are identified and coordinated with referring agents and parents/guardians. They prepare their students for the transition back to home, school and community by increasing family involvement in case planning and through therapeutic home passes. They facilitate school re-enrollment or coordinate GED and vocational classes.

Intensive Outpatient

Clients engaged in intensive outpatient programs (IOP) live and work in their home community while receiving frequent, high-level care. These programs offer personalized care designed to evolve with the clients’ changing needs. Many intensive outpatient rehabs require a minimum of nine hours of treatment per week, but high-risk clients and those in early recovery may receive up to 20 hours of care weekly. IOP services generally include addiction counseling, recovery education, and holistic therapies, such as massage.

Outpatient

Outpatient rehabs specialize in providing comprehensive care for clients who choose to remain in their homes and communities during treatment. Their services may include transitional support for clients stepping down from intensive inpatient programming. Ambulatory medical detox may be provided for clients at low risk for withdrawal complications. Many programs include evening, night, and weekend services to accommodate clients who are working professionals or caregivers. Addiction counseling and life skills training are common treatment modalities.

Clinical Services

Family Therapy

Multidimensional Family Therapy (MDFT) is an innovative and evidence-based family-driven drug abuse recovery program for adolescents and their families. MDFT is recognized as one of the most promising interventions for substance abuse, working with families in their home, school and community. MDFT looks at all of the components in a teen’s life to promote positive, long term change. Outside In began MDFT in March 2009. The clinical staff of Outside In has found that the operating principles of MDFT relate well to the work that has been taking place in their agency for years. MDFT is effective in helping youth ages 11-21 with substance abuse. Families who are experiencing some type of family or parent/child issue should consider participation in the service.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). Adolescent group sessions provide valuable peer-to-peer dialogue and feedback that stimulates fresh perspectives regarding recovery. Groups are formed as needed and may be held in client-friendly locations throughout the county.

Individual sessions may be combined with family sessions and group sessions to enhance progress. Face-to-face time is coupled with telephone and teleconferencing techniques in a manner similar to many of SAMHSA’s model programs. This allows for frequent, responsive and timely treatment opportunities in a client-friendly and cost-efficient delivery system. Client satisfaction and outcomes information is gathered during treatment and post-discharge.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.
