New Paths Inc (NPI) is a comprehensive drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility in Flint, Michigan. By using evidence based treatments, they help adults find stability and recovery from substance use disorder. They are a residential setting with clinical staff and modern amenities.
Clients undergo screening from Section 10. NPI works with Medicaid, Black Rock funding, and self pay options.
The inpatient program provides onsite housing for those who exhibit a need for closer supervision. Clients are under 24 hour monitoring by the clinical and support staff, who are also equipped to provide care whenever needed. NPI’s inpatient program typically lasts between 30 and 90 days, depending on need.
Clients collaborate with their personal care team to build a plan that best suits their needs. Therapy and education programs are the basis of treatment and focus on developing coping skills and changing destructive behaviors. NPI specializes in peer lead therapy sessions, which promote healthy communication between clients and help cultivate social skills that will strengthen recovery.
Outpatient treatment is a day program suited for those with less severe symptoms. Clients will undergo an assessment to determine the best therapeutic methods for them. Inpatient clients visit the facility throughout the week for meetings and treatment, with the number of sessions varying based on need.
The intensive outpatient program is a variation of the standard day program that meets more often and for longer periods. It’s sometimes used to help transition those who completed inpatient care back to their daily lives. Clients may also seek intensive outpatient treatment if they qualify for the standard outpatient program.
NPI utilizes medication assisted treatment when staff determines that a client’s symptoms are so severe that other treatment methods on their own would be ineffective. Medical staff carefully manage and administer approved medications that help clients cope with their symptoms. MAT is used in tandem with holistic approaches like therapy.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.
Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.
Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.
