Native American Connections - Guiding Star is a behavioral health and substance abuse treatment center in Phoenix, Arizona, north of Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. They specialize in utilizing culturally appropriate Native American treatment and support programs for clients of all races, beliefs, and backgrounds. They serve clients of all ages.
Native American Connections – Guiding Star focuses on whole-person healing that combines evidence-based practices with traditional methods to create a multi-dimensional approach. Some traditional healing practices include sweat lodges, talking circles, music, storytelling, and smudging and purification. Services include residential treatment, an intensive outpatient program (IOP), dual diagnosis treatment, and recovery housing.
Inpatient care is traditionally reserved for clients experiencing severe symptoms. Participants in this program reside at the campus so they can be monitored and cared for by staff around the clock. Treatment includes traditional healing alongside counseling, education, life-skills development, parenting support, domestic violence education, 12-Step groups, and additional medical services.
The IOP is a high level of outpatient care. This program lasts eight weeks and is open to clients 18 and older. Clients who are part of the IOP meet at the facility for treatment five times per week, while continuing to live at home. Clients engage in case management services, counseling, peer recovery programs, family support programs, and 12-Step groups. These are offered alongside holistic treatment options.
Co-occurring disorders are behavioral health issues that exist alongside substance use disorder (SUD) diagnosis. Clients with a dual diagnosis can receive specialized treatment that targets the symptoms of both problems at once.
The recovery housing program is open to clients who want additional support and aren’t ready to return home. Residents work with a live-in recovery coach and must participate in the IOP and other recovery activities.
In network and out of network benefits can vary, so clients should always confirm their coverage with their insurance provider before enrolling in a treatment plan.

Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.
Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.
Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.
In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.
