About this Facility

Merakey Behavioral Health Services - Coal Township is a nonprofit offering services for local communities in Coal Township, Pennsylvania. They provide behavioral health services, educational resources, and addiction treatment.

Addiction and mental health related services offered at Merakey Behavioral Health include clinical assessments, comprehensive treatment planning, mobile intake and assessment teams, co-occurring disorder programs, outpatient treatment programs, counseling, medication assisted treatment, community referrals, diversion programs, and community treatment.

The Parkside Recovery Mobile Intake and Assessment Team responds to individuals with addiction and/or co-occurring mental health disorders. The team provides an in community response, assesses individuals and the level of intervention required, then seeks to refer patients to the appropriate services for stabilization.

Merakey Behavioral Health’s intensive outpatient programs treat addiction and/or other co-occurring conditions. The program includes a thorough clinical assessment, individualized treatment planning, individual and group counseling, medication management, CBT, and psychoeducation. It may also involve the use of MAT (explained below). Intensive outpatient sessions are held at least three to four times per week.

Outpatient programs are for individuals with substance use disorder and/or co-occurring conditions who do not require detox or stabilization but do need inpatient or intensive addiction treatment. Like the intensive outpatient program, the regular outpatient services at Merakey Behavioral Health provide similar activities, such as assessment, participating in individual and group treatment counseling, medication management, and attending educational groups to enhance coping skills and peer recovery support. Where this program differs is that patients are required to attend less frequently but at least once or twice a week.

The MAT program includes counseling, support groups, and medication management in an outpatient setting. This program is appropriate for alcohol and substance use disorders and is available to men, women, pregnant and postpartum people. As clients progress and stabilize, in person office appointments tend to become less frequent.

In partnership with Philadelphia Police, Merakey Behavioral Health provides behavioral health services to individuals as part of a police or court requirement. Typically, diversion programs are offered as an alternative to prosecution and jail time.

Merakey Behavioral Health accepts various payment methods and can provide some services for free from donations and state funding.

Level of Care

Outpatient

Outpatient rehabs specialize in providing comprehensive care for clients who choose to remain in their homes and communities during treatment. Their services may include transitional support for clients stepping down from intensive inpatient programming. Ambulatory medical detox may be provided for clients at low risk for withdrawal complications. Many programs include evening, night, and weekend services to accommodate clients who are working professionals or caregivers. Addiction counseling and life skills training are common treatment modalities.

Intensive Outpatient

Clients engaged in intensive outpatient programs (IOP) live and work in their home community while receiving frequent, high-level care. These programs offer personalized care designed to evolve with the clients’ changing needs. Many intensive outpatient rehabs require a minimum of nine hours of treatment per week, but high-risk clients and those in early recovery may receive up to 20 hours of care weekly. IOP services generally include addiction counseling, recovery education, and holistic therapies, such as massage.

Aftercare Support

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).
