About this Facility

Hoy Recovery Program is an accredited alcohol and drug rehab center in Espanola, NM for individuals and families. This rehab aims to provide culturally relevant substance abuse services in a safe, clinical, and trauma informed environment.

Their mission is to empower individuals to overcome substance abuse and achieve lasting recovery through a range of levels of care and specialized services.

At HOY Recovery Program, each individual’s journey to recovery is unique. Patients undergo an initial assessment that helps to develop individualized treatment plans, tailoring programs and therapies to meet specific needs and goals.

Hoy Recovery Program offers a residential program that takes place on a 40 acre riverside campus where residents receive round the clock supervision, evidence based therapies, counseling, and a structured daily schedule to foster comprehensive healing and personal growth. With the average length of stay being 30-90 days, patients receive traditional Northern New Mexico healing methods as well.

HOY Recovery Program integrates holistic therapies to complement traditional treatment approaches. They offer Agriculture Therapy, which allows individuals to engage in gardening and nature based activities to promote self reflection and inner growth. Curanderas (traditional healers) lead our clients through meditation, and a temazcal, or sweat lodge (currently under renovation and paused as a provided service), is also an integral part of treatment.

HOY Recovery Program recognizes the importance of equipping individuals with practical skills for a successful recovery journey. They provide skills training programs that focus on areas such as vocational training, job readiness, financial literacy, and life skills development.

Treatment

Alcoholism

Ranging from mild to severe, alcohol use disorder is a condition characterized by drinking to the point of causing harm or distress. Recovery from this alcohol addiction takes time and commitment. Alcohol rehab in New Mexico can provide the resources necessary to overcome alcoholism. Through detox, psychotherapy, and social supports, participants gain the skills they need to achieve and maintain sobriety.

Drug Addiction

Each drug rehab in New Mexico offers unique amenities and treatment methods. Common aspects of treatment include group and individual counseling, recreational therapy, medication management, and healthy living. Aftercare is often provided to prevent relapse.

Opioid Addiction

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance Abuse

In New Mexico, substance abuse treatment is available on an inpatient and outpatient basis. These programs integrate evidence-based therapies such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy, and mindfulness-based interventions — like yoga and meditation — to help you reframe unhelpful thoughts, develop more healthy coping strategies, and give you the tools to sustain your recovery.

Level of Care

Outpatient

Clients enrolled in outpatient rehab programs may receive daily, biweekly, or weekly treatment while continuing to live at home. This enables clients to integrate their recovery care plan into their routine work and family schedule. Addiction counseling, recovery-focused life skills training, and medication assisted treatment (MAT) are the most common services offered at outpatient centers, but many also provide holistic therapies, such as meditation and massage, and ancillary services, such as career coaching.

Medically Assisted Detox

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

24-Hour Clinical Care

At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.

Intensive Outpatient

Intensive outpatient programs (IOP) provide robust support for clients who choose to remain in their own homes or who are reintegrating into their community following inpatient care. IOP treatment generally consists of a combination of individual, group, and family counseling, recovery-focused life skills training, and evidence-based holistic therapies. Many intensive outpatient rehabs also offer medication assisted treatment (MAT) for clients in alcohol and/or opioid recovery. Clients in IOP typically receive nine to 20 hours of treatment weekly.

Inpatient

Residents live In gender-specific residence halls on a private, safe and secure 40-acre campus bordering the Rio Grande River, located in Velarde, New Mexico. Prolonged Residential Treatment may be recommended for Individuals who require prolonged intensive treatment. Residents are kept busy on a daily basis.

12-Step

12 step programs promote comprehensive and continuing care for persons in recovery through peer support and personal growth. Regular attendance at 12 step meetings is required. Participants also select a peer sponsor who mentors sponsees through the recovery journey. Though the 12 steps of recovery are rooted in the belief in a higher power, religious affiliation is not mandatory. These programs are designed to facilitate self-understanding and forgiveness, personal accountability, and acceptance of that which cannot be changed.

Aftercare Support

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Sober Living Homes

To achieve this goal, the setting offers recovery groups, household participation, and required sobriety. Residents rent a room and share living space with others in recovery. Individuals can live in the men’s or women’s sober living home indefinitely, if they continue to live in accordance with the house rules. Most stay at least six months.

Clinical Services

Creative Arts Therapy

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.
