About this Facility

New Freedom Academy (NFA) Salem is a mental health support and drug and alcohol addiction treatment facility in Salem, New Hampshire. NFA provides adult clients with outpatient services tailored to their needs and schedules to ensure they get the highest personalized care possible. This is a private facility with modern amenities. NFA is part of the Granite Recovery Centers network. Clients needing additional services not provided at NFA may be referred to one of its sister facilities.

PHP offers the high level of care of a traditional inpatient residential program with increased freedom of outpatient care. During PHP, clients visit the facility during the day to participate in treatment and return home at night. Clients attend PHP at NFA between 8 AM to 4 PM, Monday through Saturday.

During PHP, clients participate in five groups each day. These groups focus on developing coping and life skills to support a life of recovery and addiction and mental health education. Education topics include anger management, relapse prevention, and symptom management. NFA follows cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) modalities.

Clients in the PHP program have additional access to clinical services and case management from the support staff.

Clients will transition from PHP to IOP once an assessment determines they have made sufficient progress. Like PHP, IOP is a day program where clients visit the facility while living at home. However, clients in IOP participate in treatment from 9 AM to 12:30 PM, with three groups a day instead of five. IOP emphasizes coping skills and symptom management so clients are prepared as they return to their daily lives post treatment.

The Granite Recovery Network and its facilities (including NFA) are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities. They are LegitScript certified.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.
