In Miami, Florida, the Golden Palms Residential Treatment (also called Douglas Gardens) center is a drug and alcohol treatment facility that supports adults with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions. They also provide valuable community resources, such as referrals, psychiatric care, and social services.
Addiction services at Golden Palms Residential Treatment/Douglas Gardens include mental health assessments counseling, outpatient programs, and case management.
Mental Health Assessment and Counseling Assessments help drug and alcohol counselors to evaluate participants’ mental health for substance use disorder and any co-occurring conditions, and to formulate a treatment plan. Participants may engage with individual, group, and family counseling.
Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) Outpatient is for individuals who need addiction treatment, but don’t need 24-hour care. Douglas Gardens offers treatment to adults over 18. Participants receive an assessment and treatment plan, individual and group counseling, educational classes, case management, 12-step meetings, and referrals. IOP typically runs treatment sessions several days a week.
Case Management This service involves a case manager working with residents to arrange care, coordinate services, make referrals, and navigate services throughout the treatment process.
12 Step Peer Support Meetings Alcoholics Anonymous is a 12-step program of recovery that is also referred to as “mutual-aid” or a “social model” of recovery. AA helps adults overcome alcohol use disorder and substance use disorders through their 12-step program, recovery meetings, sponsorship, and being of service to others in need. Anyone can attend, the only requirement is a desire to stop drinking. Meetings are available throughout the day, seven days a week, and are often available within rehab programs.

It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.
Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.
Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.
Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.
Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.
