Gateway Rehab provides alcohol and drug addiction treatment to men and women throughout Pennsylvania, with their main campus located in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania. Gateway views addiction as a primary illness rather than as a symptom of any other problem and treats it with this in mind.
Gateway Rehab offers residential, outpatient, family programs, and medication assisted treatment.
Gateway Rehab’s residential program is best suited for individuals who need a high level of accountability, structure, and support during the initial phase of recovery. The program focuses on early recovery and provides the skills needed to overcome addiction through various formats, such as counseling, groups, and educational classes. The average length of stay for short term inpatient residential is 28 days, while the average length of stay for long term is up to 120 days, allowing for a short term or long term stay.
Outpatient treatment at Gateway Rehab is for those who are capable of receiving addiction treatment while living at home or in a sober living environment. This program meets 4 -5 days a week and offers both day and night options. A psychiatric nurse is available for telehealth visits throughout the duration of the outpatient program.
The medication assisted treatment program at Gateway Rehab combines medication with counseling and evidence based treatments. FDA approved medications are used to support withdrawal from opioid drugs and to help maintain long term abstinence. By combining medication with mental health treatment, a greater chance of success is achieved for long term abstinence.
Ensuring the family unit understands the complexity of addiction is important. Family programming provides information on addiction, codependency, family dynamics, communication, recovery, and relapse prevention. By creating a healthy environment to return home to, those struggling with addiction have a higher level of success. Often this is best done through family programming, family education, or family therapy.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.
Substance use disorder is a family disease. When someone has a problem with substance use, it affects everyone in the family. At Gateway Rehab, they encourage the family to be part of their loved one’s addiction treatment and recovery process. Programming for family and loved ones will encourage them to discuss the impact that addiction has on their life and on others associated with their loved one. They also assist with finding support groups such as Al-anon and Nar-anon where you will learn to take care of themselves and be a vital part of the recovery process. Recovery for the patient is enhanced greatly by a healthy family.
Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.
In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.
