Treatment

Alcoholism

Alcohol addiction (also called alcoholism or alcohol use disorder) is defined as a chronic disorder involving compulsive drinking of alcohol. Many treatment options are available for this addiction, based on frequency of consumption and severity of alcohol abuse. Most alcohol rehab in Montana involves detoxification, psychotherapy, and social supports. Family involvement is often encouraged, and ongoing support after rehab is essential.

Drug Addiction

A comprehensive drug rehab in Montana treats the entire person. Treatment methods address all the underlying causes of addiction and give the individual the tools they need to live a healthy, drug-free life.

Dual Diagnosis

Montana's dual-diagnosis addiction treatment programs provide comprehensive care for individuals with co-occurring substance use disorders and mental health conditions. Outpatient, inpatient, and partial hospitalization levels of care are available. Therapies such as cognitive behavioral therapy, or dialectical behavioral therapy, mindfulness-based therapy, and experiential therapy address both disorders simultaneously and promote overall health. The benefit of dual diagnosis is that both conditions are treated at the same time, drastically increasing the odds of successful long-term recovery.

Opioid Addiction

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance Abuse

In Montana, addiction treatment programs provide comprehensive care for individuals struggling with substance abuse. Levels of care include residential rehab, detox, and intensive outpatient programs. Substance abuse treatments include interventions like cognitive behavioral therapy, or dialectical behavioral therapy, educational groups, skills training, and family counseling. The benefits of substance abuse treatment are improved health and increased odds of long-term sobriety.

Level of Care

Outpatient

Clients enrolled in outpatient rehab typically reside in their own homes and many continue to work and/or attend school while receiving addiction treatment. The frequency and intensity of outpatient treatment varies based upon the clients’ evolving needs. Many programs offer a full continuum of outpatient care, including partial hospitalization (PHP), intensive outpatient (IOP), sober living/halfway housing, and standard outpatient services. The most common treatment modalities are psychotherapy, life skills training, and medication assisted treatment (MAT).

Intensive Outpatient

Clients who wish to remain in or return to their own homes but who still need robust care may enroll in an intensive outpatient program (IOP). These programs feature frequent, high-level treatment, often combining a variety of modalities, including addiction counseling, recovery education, and holistic therapies. Clients in alcohol and/or opioid recovery may also receive medication assisted treatment (MAT). Most intensive outpatient rehabs require clients to participate in nine to 20 hours of treatment weekly.

Aftercare Support

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Sober Living Homes

Each sober living home in Montana maintains strict rules that residents must follow. This structured environment is designed to provide a safe place of support and accountability for residents to establish and maintain sobriety. To remain in the halfway house, residents must pay their own rent, which varies by location. Some homes include utilities and other services, which can make sober living homes quite affordable.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.
