Treatment

Alcoholism

Alcohol use disorder (AUD) is a condition characterized by drinking that causes distress or harm. Also called alcoholism, this alcohol addiction can be classified as mild, moderate, or severe. Various treatments for alcoholism can be classified as social, psychological, and physiological. Options include inpatient or outpatient alcohol rehab in New Hampshire, 12-step groups, and faith-based recovery programs.

Drug Addiction

Treatment provided at drug rehab in New Hampshire prepares individuals to handle life stressors without using substances. Participants get the tools and support they need to maintain lifelong recovery.

Dual Diagnosis

In New Hampshire, dual-diagnosis addiction treatment programs prioritize comprehensive care for individuals with co-occurring substance use disorders and mental health conditions. Offering a full continuum of care, you can generally choose from inpatient residential rehab, or outpatient programs. Treatment includes therapies such as cognitive behavioral therapy, or dialectical behavioral therapy, process groups, family counseling, skills training, and psychoeducation to uncover the root causes of your addiction, improve mental health, and achieve and sustain your recovery. Addiction and mental health experts help to create a comprehensive aftercare plan that will your long-term success.

Mental Health and Substance Abuse

In New Hampshire, dual-diagnosis rehabs offer comprehensive care for individuals facing both mental health and substance abuse challenges. These specialized facilities integrate evidence-based therapies such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), trauma-informed care, and experiential therapy to address your mental health holistically. The benefits of dual-diagnosis treatment are enhanced outcomes, improved health, and they provide you with the skills to maintain your sobriety and manage your mental health.

Opioid Addiction

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Level of Care

Medically Assisted Detox

The Farnum Center’s Medical Detoxification unit is open 24 hours a day. It is medically supervised by their Medical Director, nurses, counselors, licensed mental health clinicians, and master level alcohol and drug counselors. The Medical Detoxification unit will serve individuals 17 and older needing help to safely and medically stop using alcohol and other drugs. Once screened and accepted, a specific medical treatment plan will be developed according to the established protocols. Each protocol calls for a certain medication to help alleviate the symptoms of withdrawal. A very important piece of the detoxification is the frequency of monitoring withdrawal symptoms. The detoxification process consists of three essential components: evaluation, stabilization, and fostering patient readiness for entry into treatment.

Intensive Outpatient

Intensive outpatient programs (IOP) offer high-level transitional support for clients exiting inpatient rehab. They can also be effective for clients at significant relapse risk Intensive outpatient treatment typically involves between nine and 20 hours of care per week, with the frequency and intensity of treatment decreasing as clients progress in their recovery. Most IOP clients participate in a combination of psychotherapy, recovery education, holistic therapies, and, for some, medication assisted treatment (MAT).

Inpatient

The Farnum Center’s Inpatient Program is a 30-day, gender-specific treatment procedure with the capacity to serve 40 adults who have primary substance abuse issues, or mental health and substance use problems. This program is for clients who require the structure and intensive support of an inpatient setting. They have a very unique approach to treatment by using Health Realization (HR) in all of their programs and start with the premise that each client is healthy and has it within themselves to guide their own life with the help and support of their trained staff.

24-Hour Clinical Care

At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.

12-Step

12 step programs are often considered the gold standard in addiction treatment. They are based on personal growth and intensive peer support. Participants are expected to regularly attend 12 step meetings, which are free, anonymous, and open to the public. They are also required to select a peer sponsor to mentor them as they work through the steps of recovery, which are based on non-denominational spiritual principles designed to foster understanding, forgiveness, accountability, and acceptance.

Aftercare Support

Members of their alumni community stay strongly connected with Webster Place. Often, alumni return to share their experience, strength, and hope with their new residents. They stay connected through weekly alumni meetings and self-help meetings at Webster Place for those in treatment and in the community. Many reach out to each other for ongoing support and encouragement via phone, email, and social networking. The broader community also plays a major role in supporting our residents and alumni with self-help meetings, employment and friendship. They provide rides to meetings, volunteer, and make donations to help those in need.

Partial Hospitalization Program

A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don't require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for ~ 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). Some PHPs are residential (patients sleep on site) and some are not, so patients sleep at home. PHPs can last from 1-6 months, and some offer transportation and meals. The Farnum Center recognizes that there are individuals who can be successful in treatment by coming to Farnum on a daily basis, but still returning home each day. This is what our PHP offers. By engaging in outpatient PHP, clients can continue maintaining their outside responsibilities, while having the support of professionals and peers five days per week, four hours each day.

Clinical Services

Experiential Therapy

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Families are the most important people to an individual in treatment. They want families to feel like The Farnum Center is just as much their program as it is the clients. So what they have done is create programs on the weekends and invite family members to participate. They offer adult visits on Saturdays and Sundays from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm. The visiting day is determined by the unit your loved one is on. They also have children visits so the client can see their children with the support of staff. On visiting day we expect each family member to participate in family education prior to the visit.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Recreational therapy (aka therapeutic recreation) uses creative and fun activities to help with addiction recovery. Recreational therapists lead patients in entertaining and engaging activities like sports or games; art (drawing, painting, sculpture); drama, music, and dance; and/or community outings (field trips) to improve patients' physical, social, and emotional well-being.
