About this Facility

Cove Forge Behavioral Health is a private substance abuse rehabilitation facility in Williamsburg, Pennsylvania, a short distance south of the Monongahela River. They provide highly individualized care to men and women seeking comprehensive care for drug and alcohol addiction. They serve adult clients. This facility offers three specialized programs in addition to its general services: H.O.P.E. (and opiate addiction program), a veterans only treatment plan, and a Christian based program. Regardless of which program a client enters, they can expect a wide range of services from a multidisciplinary care team. Services offered include:

Medically monitored detox allows clients to safely withdraw from drugs and alcohol under the care and guidance of medically trained staff. Detox is often required before clients can enter a treatment program.

Clients live on site during this program so they can be supervised and cared for by staff 24 hours a day. Clients follow a daily schedule of recovery activities during their stay, which includes therapy (individual, group, family, and experiential), medication management, 12 step groups, relapse prevention, and education groups.

PHP is sometimes used as a transitional program following inpatient treatment. Clients spend each day in treatment participating in therapy and recovery and return home at night. This facility offers housing options for clients in PHP.

Cove Forge Behavioral Health accepts most major insurance plans, including Aetna, Cigna, and Optum. They also accept Blue Cross Blue Shield and New York Medicaid. Clients should contact their plan to confirm in network and out of network benefits before enrolling.

Treatment

Substance Abuse

In Pennsylvania, substance abuse treatment programs can help address addiction and any co-occurring mental health problems. These programs incorporate evidence-based therapies such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and psychoeducation to help you uncover the underlying causes for your substance use and develop new skills to help you manage stress and overcome future triggers which may challenge your sobriety.

Level of Care

Intensive Outpatient

Clients engaged in intensive outpatient programs (IOP) live and work in their home community while receiving frequent, high-level care. These programs offer personalized care designed to evolve with the clients’ changing needs. Many intensive outpatient rehabs require a minimum of nine hours of treatment per week, but high-risk clients and those in early recovery may receive up to 20 hours of care weekly. IOP services generally include addiction counseling, recovery education, and holistic therapies, such as massage.

12-Step

12 step programs prioritize the recovery journey as a life-long process based on personal spiritual growth and ongoing peer support. Regular attendance at 12 step meetings, which are held multiple times each day in most communities, is expected. Participants also receive one-on-one mentoring by a self-selected peer sponsor. The 12 steps are designed to encourage participants’ self-compassion, awareness, acceptance, and accountability. Dedicated programs for specialized groups, including seniors, teens, and families, are common.

Partial Hospitalization Program

A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don't require 24-hour care. The PHP is designed as a continuation of inpatient programming with a special curriculum to help individuals to get back into daily life. PHP is held Mondays through Fridays from 9:00 am until 3:30 pm.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CMT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse. The rationale behind CBT is that all behavior is learned, including maladaptive behavior, and that individuals are both producers and products of their environments. The general goal of CBT is to create new conditions for learning.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation. At Cove Forge of Erie, they recognize the many ways that family members can be impacted by addiction, and the important role that they can play in their loved one’s recovery. Depending upon determinations that include need, clinical appropriateness, and the preferences of the individual in treatment, family therapy sessions may be scheduled on a case-by-case basis.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members. Cove Forge of Erie provides participants with several opportunities to reap the many benefits of group therapy. This form of therapy allows participants to learn from the experiences of others who are in similar situations, to share the insights that they have developed during their treatment, and to practice healthy interpersonal communication skills, all within a safe and structured environment that is moderated by a mental health professional.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life. One-on-one sessions between a participant and his or her primary counselor or therapist can be scheduled on an as-needed basis. Individual therapy can be beneficial to participants who need a more intensely personalized interaction in order to process successes or setbacks, or to address issues that may not be appropriate to discuss in a group therapy session.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.
