About this Facility

Center for Discovery Portland is an outpatient eating disorder treatment center providing care to adults. The facility provides treatment with the acceptance of various insurance providers including, but not limited to, Cigna and Humana.

Located in a beautiful, wooded area, Center for Discovery Portland offers various levels of care and treatment services that include the following:

The partial hospitalization program (PHP) at Center for Discovery Portland provides intensive, structured care. This treatment level is suitable for individuals who can return to their homes at night. For up to six days a week, PHP provides various evidence based therapies like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT.

The intensive outpatient program (IOP) consists of three hour sessions for three to six days a week. IOP typically includes individual and group therapy sessions. It helps individuals develop critical skills for emotion regulation and relapse prevention, thereby fostering resilience.

To manage anxieties associated with food and body image, Center for Discovery Portland employs exposure therapy techniques. This process involves repeated and gradual exposure to anxiety inducing situations to foster healthier responses over time.

Treatment

Mental Health

When you experience a co-occurring drug or alcohol addiction and a mental health disorder, a dual diagnosis treatment center offers the specialized services needed to address both conditions at the same time. By treating both disorders at once - under the same roof and with 24/7 access to mental health professionals – you drastically increase your chances of being successful in long-term recovery.

Level of Care

Intensive Outpatient

Intensive outpatient programs provide robust, high-frequency care for clients in early recovery and those at an increased risk of relapse. Clients are generally expected to participate in nine to 20 hours of treatment per week, with the number and duration of sessions decreasing as clients stabilize. Intensive outpatient treatment often combines psychotherapy, including individual, group, and family counseling, with addiction and recovery education. Medication assisted treatment (MAT) and holistic therapies are also common.

Partial Hospitalization Program

A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don’t require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for around 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). Some PHPs are residential (patients sleep on site) and some are not, so patients sleep at home. PHPs can last from 1-6 months, and some offer transportation and meals.

Outpatient

Clients who wish to remain in their homes while in recovery may elect to enroll in an outpatient rehab, many of which offer evening, night, and weekend services to accommodate clients’ schedules. Most outpatient facilities provide multiple levels of care to align with clients’ evolving needs, including partial hospitalization (PHP) and intensive outpatient (IOP) for clients who require robust support and supervision. Addiction counseling and recovery-focused life skills training are the most common treatment modalities.

Clinical Services

Eating Disorder Treatment

Eating disorders include anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, and dysfunctional eating patterns. Many psychologists and other mental health professionals consider eating disorders to be food addictions, meaning food is being used in an addictive way (similar to drug or alcohol addiction). Certain substance abuse treatment programs will have treatment for eating disorders as one of the services offered. An eating disorder may also present as a co-occuring disorder or dual diagnosis alongside drug and alcohol addiction.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.
