About this Facility

Blue Hills Recovery is a rehab facility located in Worcester, MA. We offer Partial Hospitalization, Intensive Outpatient, and Outpatient levels of care for substance use disorders or mental health. As a member of the Harmony Recovery family, we combine the staff-to-patient ratio of a small program with the clinical excellence of a larger one.

Blue Hills Recovery is situated in a tree-lined neighborhood in Worcester. We are only two blocks away from the shores of Indian Lake and less than half a mile from our beautiful sober living residences. Here you will find compassionate professionals dedicated to helping foster enduring recovery.

At Blue Hills Recovery, we acknowledge the uniqueness of every client in actionable ways. This is one of the reasons we utilize a ‘levels of care’ model to substance use and mental health treatment. The details of this approach can be a bit complex, but here’s the short version. We pay attention. We pay attention to who our clients are and what they need. Then, we strive to “meet them where they’re at” and help them address their issues in ways that get the results that they want.

Here is a quick rundown of our varying levels of care.

Outpatient treatment programs preserve the autonomy of our clients. Those in Outpatient programs meet at regular intervals with a therapist or counselor. For outpatient clients, Blue Hills Recovery recommends meeting at least once a month with your treatment provider.

Clients needing more treatment should consider our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). IOP allows clients to continue the meet their prior obligations and responsibilities to work, school, or family. As an added benefit, those enrolled in IOP continue to reside in their own homes.

For clients in need of the deepest level of care, Blue Hills suggests our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP). PHP clients attend therapy sessions that last a little less than a typical workday. When the treatment program concludes, clients commute back home.

Treatment

Mental Health and Substance Abuse

In Massachusetts, dual-diagnosis rehabs are usually the appropriate solution to treat co-occurring mental health and substance abuse disorders. These facilities typically employ medical and behavioral experts who use a range of interventions, together with the right healing environment, for you to achieve and sustain long-term recovery. Treatment usually includes evidence-based therapies (like cognitive behavioral therapy), recovery support meetings, 12-step facilitation, psychoeducation, skills training, and group therapy.

Level of Care

Intensive Outpatient

Intensive outpatient programs (IOP) facilitate clients’ sustained sobriety through high-level care aligned with their evolving needs. Clients engage in multiple treatment sessions per week, typically receiving between nine and 20 hours of outpatient care weekly. The frequency and intensity of treatment gradually decreases as clients stabilize. Many intensive outpatient rehabs offer a variety of services, including addiction counseling, recovery-focused life skills training, and medication assisted treatment (MAT). Evidence-based complementary therapies are also common.

Partial Hospitalization Program

A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don’t require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for around 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). Some PHPs are residential (patients sleep on site) and some are not, so patients sleep at home. PHPs can last from 1-6 months, and some offer transportation and meals.

Outpatient

Outpatient programs are designed for clients who are medically stable and not at an elevated risk of relapse, including those who have already completed inpatient care. Outpatient programs typically advance clients’ established treatment plans, offering continuing addiction counseling and recovery education. Clients who enter outpatient care immediately following detox may also receive medical and mental health assessments and personalized treatment plans. Most outpatient rehabs provide multiple levels of care to align with clients’ unique needs.

Clinical Services

Family Therapy

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.
