About this Facility

Averte is an addiction treatment provider for adults, based in Bradford, Vermont. They also provide valuable community resources, such as transitional support, case management, and family support services.

Addiction-related services offered at Averte include mental health assessment and counseling, residential substance use disorder treatment, sober living, respite program, and extended care.

Mental Health Assessment and Counseling Clinicians assess the client’s mental health for substance use disorder and co-occurring mental health disorders, then create an individualized treatment plan. Treatment may include individual, group, and/or family counseling.

Residential Addiction Treatment Averte’s residential program caters to individuals with complex mental health and substance use disorder diagnoses. The program lasts for nine to 18 months and relies on evidence-based interventions, like psychiatry, medication management, individual and group therapy, and life skills groups. Treatment begins with an assessment to determine individual needs, which informs an individualized treatment plan.

Transitional Program Graduates of the residential program may progress to the transitional program where they can receive 24-hour support and continue to work on independent living skills, before returning to their community.

Independent Living Program Averte offers an outpatient program that promotes independent living, while providing a safety net and support system for clients in early recovery. Participants can attend the program for meals, support services, therapy groups, and continued clinical care.

Treatment

Dual Diagnosis

Vermont's specialized dual-diagnosis addiction treatment programs provide comprehensive care for individuals with co-occurring substance use disorders and mental health conditions. These programs offer evidence-based therapies, holistic approaches, experiential therapies, trauma-informed care, recovery support groups, and family counseling, to address both disorders and promote mental health. Many dual diagnosis rehabs offer alumni programs to help you sustain recovery after treatment.

Mental Health

In a dual diagnosis treatment setting, you are able to receive care for both an addiction and a mental health disorder simultaneously. Each personalized dual diagnosis treatment plan includes a number of different mental health therapies and services, like cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), experiential therapies (equine and animal therapy, outdoor therapy groups, and individual or group counseling sessions. Relapse prevention education and emotional coping skills training are also commonly offered.

Level of Care

Outpatient

Clients may choose to enroll in outpatient treatment to facilitate their transition out of intensive inpatient care. Working professionals and family caregivers may also prefer to remain in their home and community post-detox, making outpatient treatment an ideal option. Many facilities offer a full continuum of care, including partial hospitalization (PHP), intensive outpatient (IOP), sober living, and standard outpatient programming. Psychotherapy, recovery education, evidence-based complementary therapies, and medication assisted treatment (MAT) are widely available in outpatient programs.

Inpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.
