About this Facility

Bonaventure House at the Ascension Illinois Health Housing and Health Alliance is a housing program for those with alcohol and drug addiction in Chicago, Illinois. They provide transitional and permanent housing for men and women. They are a residential drug rehab facility with modern home like amenities. Bonaventure House offers a structured living environment for clients transitioning back into their communities. They will consider clients regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, religious beliefs, income, and sexual orientation.

Bonaventure House offers clients a stable, sober environment following and during drug addiction treatment. They receive a private room, nutritional services, and support from the staff, who are present 24 hours a day. Clients share the residence with each other and create a supportive community.

To qualify for housing, clients must either be homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, be diagnosed with a mental health condition, or be recovering from addiction with 45 days of sobriety. It’s not necessary to meet each criterion. Acceptance is also possible when clients get referred by an inpatient treatment program with 28 days of sobriety and a commitment to remain sober.

While staying at Bonaventure House, clients are assigned an on-site case manager. Together, they develop a plan for their stay and treatment plan, including occupational therapy, individual and group counseling, and faith based services, among others. Clients also have access to a learning center to pursue educational topics that interest them.

Bonaventure House is centrally located for additional support and medical services, public transportation, and job opportunities. Staff can help connect clients to other resources as needed.

Leaving a treatment program or transitional housing poses unique challenges. The Bonaventure House staff provides extensive aftercare services to make transitioning back into the community easier by helping clients develop a plan based on immediate and long term goals. Clients also receive regular check ins and emergency assistance for utility bills for one year after program completion.

Treatment

Alcoholism

Alcohol use disorder (alcoholism) can be severe, moderate, or mild. Symptoms include spending a lot of time drinking, wanting to stop but being unsuccessful, and feeling strong cravings that lead to overuse of alcohol. At any severity level, alcohol addiction is treatable through alcohol rehab in Illinois. Most comprehensive rehab programs include medical detox, inpatient rehab, and ongoing alcohol counseling/support (maintenance).

Drug Addiction

Drug rehab in Illinois is designed to help people recover from addiction to a number of substances. The length of each program and its intensity tend to vary, and the plan of care is based on your individual needs.

Dual Diagnosis

Dual-diagnosis addiction treatment in Illinois focuses on integrated care for individuals with co-occurring substance use disorders and mental health conditions. These specialized rehab programs include detox, medication-assisted treatment, residential drug and alcohol rehab, and outpatient programs. Treatment incorporates a combination of trauma-informed and evidence-based therapies — like cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and motivational interviewing— support groups, and skills training to holistically address addiction and co-occurring disorders at the same time, enhancing your mental, physical, and emotional health.

Opioid Addiction

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance Abuse

In Illinois, comprehensive substance abuse treatment programs are available for individuals struggling with substances and their mental health. These programs offer various levels of care, including outpatient, inpatient, and partial hospitalization options. Skilled clinicians utilize evidence-based therapies such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and trauma-informed care to address substance abuse and improve your mental health. You’ll also learn strategies to cope with relapse triggers and deal with stress.

Level of Care

Inpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Sober Living Homes

Living in a sober living home in Illinois is a lot like living in a traditional home. Everyone must contribute to household chores and maintenance. All residents must work and pay rent. Individuals can mostly come and go as they please, but they must be home before curfew. Most men’s and women’s sober living homes also host house meetings where they resolve disputes, assign responsibilities, and welcome new residents.

Aftercare Support

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Clinical Services

Group Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.
