Alcoholism and Addiction Assistance Association - 5A is a nonprofit substance abuse support program in Phoenix, Arizona, near Grand Canal Trail. Rather than provide traditional treatment programs, they offer supportive housing for those who have recently completed a treatment program. They serve adult clients.
Supportive housing (or sober living or transitional homes) allows clients to live within a supportive community as they return to their daily lives post treatment. 5A is unique because it’s much less restrictive than similar programs, giving participants more responsibilities and allowing them to grow further.
Clients who feel they would benefit from additional support can find it in transitional housing. These are secure, community living homes shared with others in recovery. Typically, they are monitored by staff to ensure rules are followed (such as maintaining sobriety) and have ongoing residency requirements, such as maintaining a job.
5A requires all residents to attend a 12-Step meeting every day of the week. Of these, four must occur off site. Clients are also required to participate in daily chores and find a sponsor.
5A’s housing program is less restrictive than the usual sober living home, but the level of restrictions on a client is dependent on their ability to demonstrate commitment to their continued recovery.
Before enrolling in any treatment plan, clients should confirm coverage with their insurance carrier, as in network and out of network benefits may vary.
