About this Facility

Alcohol and Drug Dependency Services (ADDS) is a substance use disorder (SUD) recovery center in Burlington, Iowa. They serve adults, adolescents, and their families with a holistic, evidence backed approach focusing on peer support. They are a residential facility with modern amenities. ADDS provides comprehensive walk in evaluations to determine each client's needs and what program best meets them. Evaluations can also connect you with additional resources.

Residential treatment is the highest level of care available. Clients accepted into this program stay in a 20 bed facility for 60 days where they live and receive treatment. Staff closely monitor the residential facility to keep clients safe.

Clients work closely with their personal care team to develop the best treatment plan for their needs. The cornerstone of any treatment is therapy, which occurs in individual, group, and family settings. Clients learn about the effects of substance abuse, uncover their stressful triggers, and learn effective coping and communication skills.

Residential treatment is community oriented. Clients engage in group activities and form support networks with their peers.

Residential treatment can also include a stay at the ADDS halfway house. This gives clients additional support as they transition out of inpatient care and back to their daily lives. Clients receive additional counseling in this part of the program, typically lasting 30 days.

Outpatient care is the next level down following inpatient treatment. It’s ideal for those with less severe symptoms and stable home lives. The outpatient drug rehab program is open to adolescents, adults, and their families.

Clients in the outpatient program visit the ADDS facility to receive care on a regular schedule. Treatment focuses on group therapy with an emphasis on peer recovery coaching. As with the inpatient program, clients work with their care team to develop the best treatment plan for them, revising the project as they progress and need change.

ADDS offers clients continuing services and ongoing care through recurring meetings. The frequency of sessions depends on a client’s individual needs.

Treatment

Alcoholism

When an individual cannot control their alcohol use despite negative health, social, or occupational consequences, this is known as alcohol use disorder (AUD). They may experience physical withdrawal symptoms if they stop drinking. To successfully maintain sobriety, professional help is often necessary. Alcohol rehab in Iowa provides the crucial evidence-based therapies, support groups, and family involvement that make it possible to overcome alcohol addiction.

Drug Addiction

Drug rehab in Iowa is available in many formats. A variety of inpatient and outpatient options provide programs that are tailored to individual needs, making recovery possible for everyone.

Dual Diagnosis

In Iowa, dual-diagnosis addiction treatment focuses on providing comprehensive care for individuals with co-occurring mental health conditions and substance use disorders. Types of dual-diagnosis programs include residential drug and alcohol rehab and intensive outpatient options. You can expect the program to include individual and group counseling, evidence-based therapy (like dialectical behavioral therapy), and skills training to enhance your coping skills. By the end of treatment you will have the resources and supportive recovery community to sustain long-term mental health and sobriety.

Opioid Addiction

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance Abuse

In Iowa, substance abuse treatment is available at drug and alcohol rehabs. With various levels of care, you can typically find an outpatient, inpatient, and partial hospitalization program suited to your needs. Treatment involves evidence-based therapies such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and trauma-focused therapy to address unhelpful coping strategies and provide healthier coping skills. With a focus on individualized treatment plans and recovery support, these programs aim to assist individuals in achieving sustainable sobriety and improved overall well-being.

Level of Care

Outpatient

Outpatient rehab programs are designed to support clients who are exiting inpatient treatment and for those who prefer to remain in their own homes during active recovery. Clients in outpatient care typically integrate treatment into their ordinary daily routine, including work and school schedules. Evening, night, and weekend therapy sessions, recovery training courses, and other outpatient services are widely available to accommodate clients’ needs. Many outpatient rehabs also offer medication assisted treatment (MAT), including medication induction and maintenance.

Intensive Outpatient

Intensive outpatient programs (IOP) offer high-level care for clients in early recovery or who are at an increased risk of relapse. Clients may also enroll in an IOP immediately following detox, enabling them to continue to work and to live at home. Clients attend multiple outpatient treatment sessions for a minimum of nine hours per week. Many intensive outpatient rehabs provide a variety of services, including psychotherapy, recovery education, and medication assisted treatment (MAT).

Inpatient

The residential treatment program at Alcohol & Drug Dependency Services offers the following: The full residential treatment continuum including primary treatment, medically monitored and half way services is provided in a non hospital setting. Treatment is for males and females 18 years of age or older. The residential treatment program is located at the ADDS Lincoln Center in Burlington, Iowa.

Sober Living Homes

The goal of a sober living home in Iowa is to provide individuals in recovery a bridge between rehab treatment and returning home. Each home has a set of rules that residents must abide by if they want to remain in the home. The top rule is sobriety. There is a zero-tolerance policy for drug and alcohol use. Other typical halfway house rules include attendance at 12-step meetings and helping with responsibilities around the house.

24-Hour Clinical Care

At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.

12-Step

Many rehabs base their treatment models on 12 step programs, which are often considered a gold standard in addiction recovery. 12 step recovery prioritizes participants’ spiritual development as a means to heal the emotional and psychological wounds that have contributed to the addiction. Participants engage in regular, peer-led group meetings, which are free, anonymous, and accessible 24 hours per day, 365 days a year in most communities. Though these programs are spiritually-grounded, religious affiliation isn’t required.

Aftercare Support

ADDS recovery management program is provided for any client who has completed a treatment program. This program is held 1 time every week. The objective of the program is to assist clients to maintain sobriety and be able to share any concerns, problems and solutions. Regarding discharge, ADDS utilizes criteria set forth by the ASAM. Based on ASAM 6 Dimensions and criteria, you and your counselor will determine discharge criteria and appropriateness of referrals. Discharge criteria and referral are not simply determined by your counselor as your ideas, concerns, strengths, and needs are invaluable to this process. Recovery Support Services (RSS) offers a broad array of client-selected provider or community-based supports and services intended to enhance and further the client’s recovery journey.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Addiction causes stress on the family which can lead to many family problems. ADDS recognizes that family and concerned other involvement in your treatment program will increase the likelihood that you get into long-term recovery. Your counselor will also assist you in finding how best to involve supportive persons of your recovery into your treatment program. Getting a loved one into care and finding support services for your family or support system are the next steps toward recovery.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.
