About this Facility

AlAnon and Alateen is a drug and alcohol addiction recovery support group in West Memphis, Arkansas. This organization provides 12-Step outpatient support groups for family members of individuals who are addicted to alcohol.

Alateen is for children of alcoholics, while AlAnon is open to any family member or loved one. Using the spiritual principles of the 12 Steps, these groups use a higher power, peer-to-peer support, and sponsorship as a way to find support and understand their role in the life of someone with addiction.

Members learn that alcoholism is a disease and learn how they can detach themselves emotionally from the drinker’s problems while continuing to love the person. They also learn that they are not the cause of anyone else’s drinking or behavior, that they cannot change or control anyone but themselves, and that they have spiritual and intellectual resources with which to develop their own potential. They discover how to build satisfying and rewarding life experiences for themselves. Meetings are offered at various locations, days, and times and cover a variety of topics. Meetings are free.

12-Step

12 step programs are designed to foster participants’ recovery through spiritual development, promoting healing in mind, body, and spirit. Participants engage in 12 step meetings, which are free, anonymous, and accessible daily, including evening, night, and weekend group sessions. Participants also self-select a sponsor to support them throughout their recovery journey. Though rooted in spiritual principles, participants do not have to be religiously-affiliated. Specialized formats, including gender and age-specific ones, are available.

Clinical Services

Family Therapy

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.
