Al-Anon Family Group is a community alcohol and substance abuse support group in Santa Barbara, California. They provide outpatient support services to adult and teen clients. Al-Anon groups exist to support friends and family who have been affected by someone else's alcohol use disorder.
Al-Anon Family Group meetings are organized and overseen by its members. Unlike private recovery programs, clients do not need to register or apply to attend meetings. They are free to attend meetings as often as they like. Most Al-Anon Family Groups have multiple meetings throughout the week to accommodate specific groups and work/school schedules. There are no attendance fees.
Al-Anon Family Group uses a 12 Step model similar to that of AA groups. The steps are designed to help clients improve themselves through accountability, personal responsibility, forgiveness, self compassion, spirituality as they see it, and fellowship with others.
Al-Anon Family Group is free to attend; however, members may refer one another to additional mental health or drug rehab programs for further support. These programs typically are not free, but they often accept insurance, such as BlueCross BlueShield, Humana, Wellmark, ComPsych, and HCSC. Clients who enroll in such programs are urged to confirm coverage with their insurance provider first, as out of network benefits may vary.

Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.
