AdCare Outpatient, in Worcester, Massachusetts, offers integrated addiction treatment for adults, including specialized programming for young adults and persons with co-occurring addiction and mental illness. Their services include telehealth care, medically supervised ambulatory detox, medication assisted treatment (MAT), intensive outpatient (IOP), general outpatient (OP), and aftercare programming.
Clients undergoing ambulatory detox receive robust medical supervision and may be prescribed FDA-approved medications to ease withdrawal symptoms and prevent potentially serious complications. Those in alcohol and/or opioid recovery may enroll in the evidence-based MAT program for longer-term pharmacotherapy to reduce cravings and decrease relapse risk.
The intensive outpatient (IOP) program is designed for clients requiring high-level supervision and support, including those in early recovery, those stepping down from inpatient care, and those at an elevated relapse risk. Clients engage in intensive individual, group, and family counseling drawing on proven modalities, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and motivational interviewing. The program promotes clients’ sustained sobriety through extensive, age and gender-specific life skills training addressing topics such as coping, self-care, and relapse prevention.
Their general outpatient (OP) and aftercare services ensure a complete continuum of care aligned with clients’ evolving needs and may include step-down support, 12 step program facilitation, housing and employment assistance, and referrals for additional medical, mental health, and social service programs.
AdCare Outpatient is accredited by The Joint Commission and accepts private insurance, military insurance, EAP benefits, per session payment, Medicaid, Medicare, and self-pay. Financial aid is available.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.
AdCare believes that the families and friends of their patients should have an opportunity to participate in their loved one’s treatment, to increase likelihood of their loved ones’ successful recovery, as well as to receive treatment and support for themselves. AdCare offers a range of structured family counseling and complimentary support services. Their Family Program is designed to educate loved ones about substance dependency, as well as provide support for family members in a therapeutic, group-mentoring setting. All family programs are facilitated by knowledgeable and experienced professionals, who also provide treatment to their patients.
Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.
In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.
Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.
