A Safe Haven is a mental health and alcohol and drug addiction treatment center located in Chicago, Illinois. They offer customized mental health and substance use disorder treatment plans based on the 12 Steps model of healing and traditional mental clinical treatment modalities.

A Safe Haven provides a continuum of phased housing which consists of access to transitional, recovery home, supportive, affordable, senior and veteran housing that offers mental health services and substance use disorder treatment options.

Transitional Housing through A Safe Haven is short term housing that integrates people who are homeless into an appropriate living space. These residences provide an intermediate step between homelessness and permanent housing without disrupting treatment services for mental health or addiction. The duration of this program is up to four months, with the goal of finding new, appropriate housing by the four month mark.

Supportive Housing at A Safe Haven is long term or permanent housing. It provides a stable and productive environment where programming that assists participants in bettering their lives can be implemented on a daily basis. When accepted to this program, residents have access to various services such as counseling, recovery meetings, health services, and job training. Counseling services and weekly gatherings related to substance abuse and addiction, are also provided. Medical needs are accounted for through health screenings and other primary care services. Outside referrals can be made to specialists as needed. Transportation assistance is available to those who do not have a vehicle.

The 12 Step program is a common recovery model based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a plan for recovery based in a Higher Power. Middle steps include self examination and making amends to those who’ve been hurt by the addiction. The later steps include continuing to take personal inventory while living a life of recovery and supporting others in doing the same. Additional 12 Step groups include Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) Gamblers Anonymous (GA), to name a few.

Alcoholism

Alcohol use disorder (alcoholism) can be severe, moderate, or mild. Sober Living Homes
